A
glossary of grantwritng terms.
Appendices
Additional
attachments required/requested at the funder's discretion. This may include
boilerplate information, endorsement or support letters and schematics
for building request (if applicable).
Budget
Proposed
costs to be met by the funder and all other funding sources. Specific
projects should include separate budgets for general operating expenses
and the specific project. The budget should be presented in columnar for
according to general accounting/bookkeeping practices OR as specifically
requested by the funder).
Common
Application Form (CAF)
A
single proposal format accepted by many grantmakers to help grantseekers
save time and streamline the grant application process.
Conclusion - A brief summary of the propsal that states problem, solution,
and sources/uses of potential project/program funds.
Cover
Letter
A
letter that presents a concise overview of an organization, purpose and
reason for amount of funding request. This letter should on the organization's
letterhead.
Executive
Summary (also call the Cover Sheet)
This
is a case statement and proposal summary. The summary should include applicant
contact information, amount of funding request, need/problem definition,
objectives, methodology, total project cost and amount requested.
Full
Funding Proposal
The
complete proposal requested by the grantmaker. Full funding proposals
are generally up to a maximum of 15 pages (single-spaced) and include
these components: Cover Letter, Cover Sheet, Narrative, Needs Assessment,
Project Goals and Objectives, Methodology, Evaluation, Budget, organization
qualifications, conclusion, and appendices. The proposal may also include
attachments.Narrative - The body of a proposal that includes needs assessment,
program goals and objectives, methodology, evaluation, budget, organizational
qualifications, and evaluation.
Preliminary
Proposal (also called Preproposal Letter)
A letter stating the organization's overview/purpose, reason and amount
of grant request, problem (need), solution to problem (program), a list
of other funders both prospective and committed. The purpose of this letter
is to convince a funder to request a full funding proposal.
Qualifications
A
statement describing the applicant's (or organization's) specific qualifications
that address the issue for funding and establishes credibility.
